As we announced here a month ago, the Open Government Partnership (OGP) has announced the creation of a number of thematic working groups, including a working group on legislative openness. The National Democratic Institute (NDI) is proud to be coordinating the Legislative Openness Working Group in partnership with the Government and Congress of Chile.
Since the Minister Secretary General of the Presidency, Cristián Larroulet, invited OGP Member Countries to participate in the Working Group last month, the following countries have expressed interest or confirmed their participation: Albania, Armenia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, the Dominican Republic, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Ghana, Honduras, Indonesia, Italy, Jordan, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Paraguay, Serbia, the United Kingdom, Uruguay and the United States. We are excited at the strong interest in this issue.
This weekend, Linda Frey, the executive director of OGP’s Support Unit, invited members of civil society from OGP Member Countries to participate in all of the new thematic working groups.
Preference will be given to candidates from OGP countries that can contribute:
- Expertise on the issue of legislative openness and diverse skill sets in dealing with openness issues;
- Prior experience working collaboratively with other civil society organizations, parliamentarians, and/or government officials;
- Geographic balance; and
- The ability to self-fund participation in Working Group activities in case funding should be limited or unavailable.
